Alaska Theater Festival 2022

Join us this summer for the second Alaska Theater Festival from May-July, 2022, which includes full productions of plays by Annie Bartholomew and William Shakespeare, play readings, writing workshops, and a co-production of Climate Fair for a Cool Planet with 350Juneau.

The Alaska Theater Festival is supported in part by the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council and the City and Borough of Juneau.

Pride and Prejudice by Kate Hamill

May 14 & 15, 2022

Join us for a staged reading of Pride and Prejudice. Not your grandma's Pride and Prejudice, Kate Hamill's fast and funny adaptation has plenty of laughs and is full of heart. Featuring Erin Tripp, Jake Waid, Christina Apathy, Enrique Bravo, Bostin Christopher, Alicia Hughes-Skandijs, Flordelino Lagundino, and Natalia Spengler. Directed by company member Christina Apathy and supported through an Artist Grant from Juneau Community Foundation.

Neighborhood Cabaret

May 26-29, 2022

Theater Alaska tours neighborhoods in Juneau bringing live music to an outdoor venue near you. The Neighborhood Cabaret features company members Ericka Lee, Christina Apathy, Tommy Schoffler, Enrique Bravo, and Flordelino Lagundino. Directed by Tommy Schoffler.

Groundwork Writers Workshop

June 10, 2022

Writer Frank Henry Kaash Katasse will lead a workshop created for Alaska Native writers to delve into writing for performance. Katasse will guide participants in writing exercises and offer guided instruction. The workshop will be held at Sealaska Heritage Institute in the Walter Soboleff Building in Shuká Hít (Clan House).

A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare

June 9-26, 2022

Lovers, fairies, and a crazy donkey. Join us outdoors for one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays, A Midsummer Night's Dream, featuring company member Enrique Bravo and Tommy Schoffler, as well as Natalia Spengler and dancers from Juneau Dance Theater. A Midsummer Night's Dream will be presented at various outdoor locations in Juneau. Directed by Producing Artistic Director Flordelino Lagundino.

Sisters of White Chapel: A Short But True Story by Annie Bartholomew

July 7-17, 2022

Sisters of White Chapel: A Short But True Story by Annie Bartholomew is a Victorian folk opera inspired by narratives of women during the Klondike Gold Rush in Alaska and the Yukon. Written by Alaskan songwriter Annie Bartholomew, this performance piece marries historic source material and folk music traditions, to honor the brave women that risked life and virtue for a chance to rise above their station.
