Christina Apathy
Christina Apathy was born on the Gulf Coast of Florida near Lemon Bay and the mouth of the Myakka River on Seminole Land. Her family comes from Transylvania in the Carpathian Mountain Basin and from the Black Forest in the Rhineland-Palatinate. Following a liberal arts education at Rollins College, Christina was accepted into New York University's prestigious Graduate Acting program (Zelda Fichandler, Chair and Ron Van Lieu, Head of Acting). There she trained in Stanislavsky, Linklater, Alexander and LeCoq techniques, exploring the world's dramatic literature as the vital member of a company and graduated a proud artist/citizen! Her professional career debuted with Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing at the Guthrie directed by Joe Dowling. She has performed Off-Broadway, on tour with the Acting Company, at the Pittsburgh Public, Indiana Rep, Cleveland Playhouse (The Seagull), Seattle Rep & the McCarter (Mary Zimmerman's, Homer's The Odyssey), Syracuse Stage and the Hangar (The Diary of Anne Frank), among others. In 2001, Christina was temping in WTC1, and five years later she moved to Alaska to join Perseverance Theatre. Favorite Juneau plays include Oklahoma!, In the Next Room, The Importance of Being Earnest and Speech & Debate with PT; The Three Musketeers with Theatre in the Rough; and Merry Ellefson's A Lifetime to Master with Generator Theatre Company. Christina is a recipient of TCG's National Fox Resident Actor Fellowship (Round 4) which funded travel and research to India (w/ Theatre Mitu), Romania, Portugal and the UK. She produced, co-directed and solo-performed a cast of 17 characters in The K of D: an urban legend by Laura Schellhardt designed by a team of local artists. In 2017, Christina hosted NPR's All Things Considered on KTOO 104.3 FM. As an adjunct professor at UAS, she directed Anton Chekhov's The Sneeze with undergraduate students. Christina has dialect-coached for The Orpheus Project and Juneau Lyric Opera/Gold Town Nick. She likes learning accents as a window into other cultures and enjoys teaching them as immersion in geography of place. Christina is a member of Actor's Equity Association and holds an MFA from NYU Tisch, an MAT from the University of Alaska Southeast and a BA from Rollins College.
