Calling all young Climate Justice Advocates! Join us for a week filled with theatre activities designed to nurture care and compassion for the Earth and all its inhabitants. Do you like to write sketches? To act things out with your friends? Arts & Crafts? Most importantly, do you have a message about climate change that you are inspired to share? Put all your passions to the test as we create our own eco-play to be performed at Theatre Alaska's Climate Fair For a Cool Planet.
The program aims to provide young people in grades 3-8 with the opportunity to voice and creatively process their opinions and feelings about our climate reality. Our goal is to provide participants with tools to express themselves artistically, and a platform to share and empower their unfiltered point of view.
The first half of the week will consist of a series of environmental justice inspired activities, including group games, creative exercises, and critical thinking-focused discussions. Mid-week, the students will be invited to collaboratively generate a performance piece (or a series of pieces) inspired by the activities, helped by facilitators. The rest of the week will be dedicated to rehearsals and sustainable/recycling-focused design workshops, in preparation for a public performance at the Climate Fair on Saturday June 26th.
All students will be engaged equally in all Writing, Designing, and Performing activities.
The Camp is facilitated by Federica Borlenghi & Covi Loveridge Brannan, New York-based Teaching Artists and Theater Professionals.
